University Lecturer in Social Work
The Department of Social Work (ISA) is responsible for the social work program, master's program, doctoral education, and research in social work at Uppsala University.
The department conducts several research projects closely linked to the practice of social work, addressing social problems, their causes, and consequences at the individual, group, and societal levels. The research projects cover topics such as vulnerability among children, youth, and families, various forms of violence, mental health issues, elderly care, communication within social work, the work and working conditions of social services, disabilities, and legal science.
Job Responsibilities
The position includes teaching, research/professional development, and administration. Teaching may occur in several core areas of the social work program, such as mental health issues, problematic use and addiction, and social investigation methodology, in addition to what is stated below. Teaching includes course responsibility, course administration, supervision, and examination.
This position is based in Uppsala.
Eligibility Requirements
Eligible for appointment as a university lecturer is someone who has obtained a doctoral degree in social work, sociology, psychology, or has equivalent scientific competence, demonstrated pedagogical skills, and possesses the personal qualities required to perform the position well. Such personal qualities include the ability to work independently and the ability to collaborate in a team. For eligibility, a very good documented ability to teach and express oneself in writing in Swedish is required.
Meritorious
Knowledge and documented pedagogical experience in the following areas:
- social work with violence in close relationships
- social work with children and youth
Experience in supervision at the undergraduate level and experience in teaching common methods within professional social work is meritorious. Work with and experience in teaching within the Social Work Program, as well as other professional skills relevant to the subject matter of the position and the tasks included in the position, are also meritorious.
Assessment Criteria
In the selection among eligible applicants, great importance will be attached to pedagogical and scientific skills equally. Significant weight will also be given to the ability to teach the subject content of the intended courses.

Documentation of pedagogical merits should include certificates and qualitative assessments from the study director or equivalent.
About the Position
The position is temporary, lasting 11 months. The scope is 100%. Start date is February 15, 2026, or as agreed. Location: Uppsala.
